Yvon Chouinard, avid rock climber, dedicated environmentalist, and savvy businessman, feels a strong need for balance between profit and the environment. It is this connection that drove his entrepreneurial spirit, creating eco-friendly spikes for use in rock climbing that would not damage the face of the rocks.

In recognition of this work and life balance, his company, Patagonia, established an on-site cafeteria for employees, serving healthy foods, and offering on-site childcare.

Patagonia is committed to furthering environmental projects and protection. The greater of 1% of total sales or 10% of total profits each year is donated to these efforts, and Patagonia is even certified B-Corporation, which requires the company to comply with public-benefit concerns along with a profit business model.
