Divine intervention led this officer to a woman trapped in a sinking car. Kelly Carter of Nash County, North Carolina was coming back home from a job interview on a terribly rainy day when her vehicle suddenly hydroplaned on a back road. As a result, her vehicle crashed into a pond.
While there are many details Carter doesn't remember, she does remember being in great danger. Trapped in her sinking car, she tried dialing 911 but because her cell phone was already covered in water, the operator had trouble hearing her.
She knew it would take a miracle to get out of the vehicle. This is just what happened when detective Roger Shearin stepped in. When he discovered her at the edge of the creek, she could barely keep her head above water.
It didn't take long before Shearin was in the water to free Carter. He was able to open the passenger-side door and pull her out to safety. If he hasn't been there, she would have drowned, Carter said.
While the officer is being called a hero by many, he wants no credit for his action. Instead, he gave all credit to God.
"He said that he works for the Lord. The Lord definitely put him in the place where he needed to be," Carter said.
