Give Me Courage

Lord, give me courage and strengthen my heart. It's easy for me to ask this, Father, because I truly believe You are with me wherever I go. You are with me when I pass over the waters to the desert. You are with me when I enter the firefight, and I believe You protect me so that no round will hit my soldiers or me, nor will we be burned, wounded, or harmed in anyway.

Lord, my confession is that I won't fear nor be dismayed because I know You are my God and You will strengthen me. Help me and hold me in Your right hand of righteousness. You are my refuge, and I have faith that you will expose our enemy before us so we may obtain victory. I hold firm to the faith that we will live and not die.

Father, thank You for Your courage and confidence to accomplish my mission, for Your Word says I can do all things through Christ who strengthen me. Father, my hope is in You and You alone. And as long as my hope is in you, my heart is strengthened and of good courage.

Lord, I will do my best to wait on You, before making a command decision when at all possible. I will wait on You to renew my strength so that I can run and not grow weary, and so I can walk and not faith.

Bless My Toil

Lord, I love life because the work I do pleases me even though it's sometimes hard. I'm pleased with the work I have done and the work I am doing.

I pray that I leave every assignment better than the way I received it, and that I remain ever conscious of the one who will continue the task after me. I pray that the person to follow will be wise and not foolish – and able to build up on and improve the assignment I've poured my effort, heart and skill into.

My heart is pleased as I reflect over my toil, for to complete the job, I've utilized the wisdom, knowledge, and skill You've blessed me with, and I'm confident and comfortable with what I leave behind.

Even though various assignments are sometimes hard and painful, I don't consider them meaningless. Rather, I consider them joyful and rewarding. Your Word teaches me it's a blessing from You to find satisfaction in work because it's You I serve and without You I have no joy and fulfillment.

Lord, I work to please You because Your Word promises You'll give me wisdom, knowledge, and happiness. Do not let me toil in vain.

Ecclesiastes 2:17-26

Live by the Spirit

Help me, dear Lord, to live by the Spirit so I don’t give in to the desires of the flesh or my sinful nature. My sinful nature only wants what is contrary to the Spirit, and that causes my nature and my spirit to war against each other.

But my desire, Lord, is to continually be led by the Holy Spirit. I purpose not to give in to the sinful nature of immorality, impurity, debauchery, idolatry, witchcraft (rebellion), hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissension, factions, envy, drunkenness, and the like. Living like this would mean I could not inherit the kingdom of God.

Instead, Lord, I want to live a life that is totally in the Spirit filled with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. I crucify my sinful nature and commit to living in the spirit, where I will continually walk.

Galatians 5:16-26

Faithfulness in Time of Separation

God, I ask You to help my spouse and me to remain physically and emotionally faithful to each other during our time of separation. You established marriage when You recognized that loneliness is never a good thing and that people need compatible intimate relationships. Help me to always remember that You provided my spouse as my compatible partner to help me through life, especially during hard times, such as deployments.

God, because You designed marriage to be a joyous, intimate, and life-long bonding experience, help us to always remember that we are no longer two individuals, but one flesh. Therefore, remind us that when one spouse does something to hurt the other that what we are really doing is hurting ourselves.

God, help my spouse and me to submit to each other's needs even during our time of separation. I ask that Your Holy Spirit spark our imaginations as to how to keep the marriage kindled while at the same time reducing our physical and emotional loneliness. Help us to continually show each other love and respect during this trying and difficult time.

God, help us to keep our relationship pure and blessed by remaining faithful to each other. Let us not deal treacherously with each other by committing adultery, which is a violation of Your Word. Help us to honor our marriage by keeping our bed undefiled. Help us not commit emotional adultery by lusting after other people, for the lust of the flesh is the seed of physical adultery. Help us not give into the works of the flesh by committing adultery, especially, during this vulnerable time of separation.

God, You put my marriage together; therefore, let no one tear it apart. Please help me to use discretion when dealing with the opposite sex. Please keep me away from immoral people who do not respect my marriage and try to seduce me with flirtatious words because I know the path of adultery could destroy my marriage or change it forever. Help me to remain on the righteous path and blameless during this time of separation.
