Treat Them with Respect
Don’t treat veterans like victims. For those who served and currently serving, they are not broken, executive director of the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America Paul Rieckhoff, shared with CNN.com. He is correct, although many have been through the hell of war--people need support, respect, not pity. A way to do this is to listen. During a day full of parades and festivities on Veteran’s Day, talk with those in the military, ask them questions. Let them know you are interested, and ask them how you can serve them. This could be sending letters to them of encouragement, or helping their family when they are on deployment.
