INGREDIENTS:
1/3 cup butter or margarine
1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 Tablespoon water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped nuts
TO PREPARE:
Preheat oven to 325 degrees. In a saucepan, melt butter and add sugar. Stir for a few seconds, remove from heat, and cool slightly. Mix in egg, water, and vanilla extract. Sift flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt; blend into mixture (all mixing can be done in saucepan). Spread batter in a greased eight by eight-inch glass dish. Sprinkle evenly with chocolate chips and nuts. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes. Avoid overcooking as brownies are better moist than dry. Cool and cut into two-inch squares.
