5 Things to Look For in a Christian Woman

Everyone has an idea of what makes the perfect man or perfect woman. Many women want a man who is taller than they are when they are wearing heels. Some men like women with long hair. Others prefer a woman with short hair. Some women like men who are clean shaven. Others prefer the rugged look of stubble or even a full-fledged beard. When looking for a spouse, however, a person obviously needs to look for things that are more than skin deep. So, when it comes to searching for a good Christian woman, what should a man look for?

Most people have a vague sense for what they want in a spouse. Some of the most common requirements are that a spouse have a sense of humor, be open and be faithful. Some people have a more well-defined picture of their future spouse while others have only this sort of vague image. Each trait, however specific, can be interpreted a number of ways. Do you want a spouse with a dry sense of humor or a ridiculous one? Do you find sarcasm funny or annoying? The idea that what is attractive is in the eye of the beholder is true for all traits. So, if one of your requirements is “Christian,” what specifically should you look for in a Christian woman?

Confident in Faith

A Christian woman should be confident in her faith. She should not be shy or hesitant about her beliefs. She does not need to be overly extraverted or extremely outspoken about her faith. A good Christian woman does not need to be handing out Bibles or knocking on doors. She does not have to be the unofficial spokesperson of her church. She needs, however, to be able to defend her beliefs. She needs to stand strong in them and be able to rely on them in times of difficulty. She does not have to have all the answers or be completely free from doubts or uncertainty. She should have confident faith not blind faith. When she feels she needs answers, she should seek them. When she has doubts, she should address them. Her primary state, however, should be one of confident faith and a comfortable certainty that God is watching over her.

Can Laugh at Her Mistakes

No one is perfect. To be human is to be flawed, and Christians are no exception to that rule. Christians will make mistakes and suffer from failure. It is inevitable that a Christian will have their slip-ups and blunders. What Christians can decide, however, is how they handle the aftermath of those mistakes. Do they melt down and have a pity party? Do they pass the buck and blame others for their shortcomings? Do they own up to their mistakes and face the consequences with stone-faced stoicism?

One of the most desirable traits in anyone is the ability to laugh at yourself. A Christian woman understands that she is imperfect, but she knows that God loves her anyway. Mistakes and failures are not the end of the world. As such, she can relax and laugh at her mistakes. She can use humor to keep her spirits high and avoid being dragged down into self-flagellating misery.

Serves Others

A good Christian serves others. Man or woman, Christians make service a central part of how they live out their faith. They choose to put their money, time and energy at the disposal of others. A Christian woman who is truly living out her faith will be involved in service in some way. She may be a mentor in a program such as Big Brothers, Big Sisters. She might volunteer at a summer camp that works to get inner-city children out into the country. She could also spend her time working with animals as a volunteer at the local animal shelter.

A Christian woman’s service may not be through an organized group. She may not belong to a volunteer organization, but that does not mean she is not serving others. She might help care for her aging parents or shovel her elderly neighbor's driveway when it snows. Her service does not have to be externally organized, but her life should not revolve solely around herself.

Desire to Grow

A Christian woman should not be content to stay where she is forever. She may not be overwhelmingly ambitious or constantly pursuing promotions at work, but she should always have a desire to grow, and she should always be trying to improve herself. She might work at developing new hobbies or skills. She might also practice various self-improvement techniques to help her keep her life balanced and avoid stress.

A Christian woman should also always desire to grow in her faith. She should be continually seeking a closer connection to God and a better understanding of His will and His word. To that end, she might be involved in Bible study, music ministry or otherwise involved in her church. She might also study alone or spend a great deal of time in prayer. However she pursues her goal, she should always be looking to grow closer to Christ.

Lives a Christian Life

A Christian should live a Christian life. Regardless of whether they are male or female, a person who professes to be of a certain faith should live their life according to the morals and tenets of that faith. A Christian woman, then, should live a Christian life. She should be honest, faithful and humble. If pushed to abandon the traits that mark her as living a Christian life, she should have the confidence and strength to refuse.

Living a Christian life does not mean that a Christian woman is a doormat. A good Christian woman will also be strong. She is more than capable of standing alone if required, and she can be the steady rock for her family. Everything she does, however, is informed by her faith. She never forgets Christ. He is always in the back of her mind, and she lives her life accordingly.
