Okay friends, I have a guilty pleasure and it’s Bachelor in Paradise. Do I really think these people will find actual love? No, not really but their hopefulness is very intriguing and somewhat mind boggling at the same time. The fact that these grown people retreat to a Mexican resort for a month, leaving their jobs and other adult responsibilities does leave me quite jealous as I pick up the toys from my children’s latest playtime session and fold laundry.

Each episode was full of the drama I love to hate on. From Tenley’s entourage of groupies to everyone’s obsession with Sam, I have to say I was wrapped up in it all. Especially, when early on Jade and Tanner and Kirk and Carly became a serious item from the get go. While I like to maintain a realistic approach, I have to honestly admit I never saw Kirk ending it with Carly. Which left me scratching my head and wondering, well what went wrong? Needless to say, I have gathered my expertise on happily ever after and this is how I believe you can avoid a Kirk and Carly break up.

Dreams Dreamed Way Too Soon

Okay, while I love Carly and her willingness to fall head over heels in “love” with Kirk but who tells a guy, in a month’s time, that she wants to have his children. All new love experiences the bliss phase where everything seems fantastic. Men feel like they are dating the prettiest girl on the planet and women believe they are really a princess living a fairy tale. Let’s stop right there – the new love phase is just that new love. When you first meet someone, each couple should enjoy their time together and figure out if this is a relationship that they’d like to continue. That’s the problem with couples today; they are so eager to find the one that they get caught up in bliss and allow that to overrule their rational thought process.

Communication

According to Kirk, he felt uneasy about his and Carly’s relationship for a week or so. Communication is crucial for every relationship. If you’re not happy with the stage of the relationship then talk to your partner and explain what you’re feeling. Continuing to act like everything is great only confuses the other person, causing them to react like Carly. Of course she didn’t want to talk to Kirk after he just broke up with her – who would want to talk after being broken up with in paradise? Always be honest with your partner and voice your concerns as they evolve. Having open lines of communication saves couples and helps them handle situations like adults.

Realistic Expectations

The key to finding someone you’ll want to spend the rest of your life with is being yourself. Yes, it was absolutely magical and picture perfect when Dan and Amber walked on water to their five star meal. And it was probably even more fairytale like when Tenley and Joshua frolicked throughout the Mexican markets and tasted fresh foods that they hand fed each other like little animals. And seriously, what woman doesn’t want to be wined and dined by a handsome man. However, the reality is you cannot live in a fairytale because eventually you will have to come back to the real world. Kirk and Carly were experiencing a vacation, not love. Once Carly’s visions surpassed the vacation and began within the real world, Kirk was ready to search for higher ground. Point is have realistic expectations and while you may be having a great time, ask yourself if you can really envision the rest of your life with this person.
