5 Democrats That Shared Their Love of Christ

Many political commentators are quick to say that the Democratic Party has an overall lack of care for religion. The morals of the Democratic Party simply would never match up to the Bible, they say. Even research centers have found evidence that the Democratic Party in America doesn't have a strong tie to faith. Many say that democrats have a "God problem".

There are many democrats in recent years, however, that aren't afraid to announce their faith to the nation. They use the Bible to help guide them, but do so in a way that they believe glorify God. They use Jesus' teachings of love to help make their decisions for the nation. They see God in a unique way that they want American’s to see, too.

It's not impossible to love both God and identify as a democrat. Here are five important leaders that do just that.

Barack Obama

During his two terms as president, Barack Obama addressed many reasons why faith mattered to him including prayer breakfasts and holidays. During his final Easter prayer breakfast in office, Barack made the statement: "(O)ur faith changes us. I know it’s changed me. It renews in us a sense of possibility. It allows us to believe that although we are all sinners, and that at times we will falter, there’s always the possibility of redemption. Every once in a while, we might get something right, we might do some good.” Obama was seen on many occasions attending church with his family and sharing those religious moments together. After a trip to the Holy Land, Obama had this to say: “I was reminded that while our time on Earth is fleeting, he is eternal. His life, his lessons live on in our hearts and, most importantly, in our actions. When we tend to the sick, when we console those in pain, when we sacrifice for those in need, wherever and whenever we are there to give comfort and to guide and to love, then Christ is with us.”

Hillary Clinton has a much more private faith, but is still a Christian none-the-less. Clinton, a lifelong Methodist, said she was raised to believe that actions speak louder than words. “If you were a person of faith, that should be evident in how you treated other people and what kind of life you lived. So, I didn’t go around talking about it a lot, but it certainly was foremost in my mind. I’ve tried to express it, sometimes more effectively than other times, over the course of the last twenty or thirty years. But I’ve tried to be guided by it, even more importantly,” Clinton once said during a fundraising event for the church. Despite this, Clinton has mentioned her faith occasionally throughout her past campaigns. When she ultimately lost the election for president in 2016, she said she turned to prayer. “Through it all, my faith was really holding me together in a very central way,” she said. “It gave me a lot of courage to get up and keep going.”
