The Old Testament is bursting with angels of supernatural powers who deliver gifts from God. There are angels who come to earth to test the hospitality of Abraham and give and old and barren Sarah good news about expecting a child in Genesis 18:1-15. Then there's the angels who welcome Jacob before his encounter with the Lord in the most famous wrestling match in the bible: Genesis 32:1-12. Angels come to our biblical ancestors as messengers of God, acting as celestial go-betweens from heaven to earth.

How are the angels of old relevant to you and your problems? It's simple. The Bible shows us that God sends His angels to guide and protect you whether you're just going about your daily business, or when you find yourself in trouble.

The Lord said: I am sending an Angel ahead of you to keep and guard you on the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.

Exodus 23:20

How Does My Guardian Angel Protect Me?

Here's how it works. Your guardian angel hears the prayers in your heart and the ones on your lips. When you pray to God, it’s understood that God is watching over you too, and He is listening to your prayers. Here's where the angels come in. God decides upon the best answer to your prayer and gives direction to your angel to "take care of it." Think of it like this: The angels are the worker bees to God's queen bee. That's why separate prayers to your Guardian angel aren't necessary. But thanks are always welcome!

You have the Lord for your refuge; you have made the Most High your stronghold. No evil shall befall you, no affliction come near your tent. For God commands the angel to guard you in all your ways.

Understanding Angels

Now that you understand angels a little bit better, you can begin to have a better relationship with your own Guardian Angel, here's some tips:

- Personalize the heavenly experience and name your guardian angel.

- Be mindful of occurrences that could be the work of angels.

- Pray often, with sincerity, and with absolute certainty that your angel is ready to act upon your prayer.

Always remember, you and your Guardian Angel have the same true purpose, to serve God. You serve God through service to others, prayer, and repentance. Your Angel serves God by taking care of you and expressing God's love for you through His little messenger, the Guardian angel.

Jesus says, “See that you never despise one of these little ones. I assure you, their angels constantly behold my Father’s face in heaven.”
