A Calendar Carved in Stone
A stela, or upright stone monument that records the Mayan long-count calendar, depicts King Waxaklahun-Ubah-K'awil of Copan, in modern-day Honduras, as he celebrates the closing of a cycle of time. The ancient Maya saw time as a series of cycles that end and begin again.
