Yoga Poses That Make Way for Curves
If you head to a yoga class at your local studio, you’re likely to hear quite a bit about muscles and bones. What you’re less likely to hear about, though, is your biggest organ: your skin. When our flesh isn’t acknowledged in yoga, especially that we all have varying amounts of it, it’s easy for people to infer that the problem is them. If they just had less curves, yoga would finally “work” for them. The good news, though, is that nothing could be further from the truth. Yoga not only can be adapted for people of all shapes and sizes, that’s pretty much the point of it to begin with. The pose should work for you, not the other way around. After years of working with curvy yogis and their teachers, I have identified several modifications and adaptations to help us feel more engaged with our practice. Following are tips on adapting your yoga practice for your unique and wonderful body.
