Fran Drescher
Actress and cancer advocate Fran Drescher was diagnosed with uterine cancer and had a hysterectomy in 2000. She started the non-profit Cancer Schmancer Movement in 2007 to help people recognize the signs of cancer with early detection. The key is asking your doctor questions said the recipient of the John Wayne Institute’s Woman of Achievement Award. "I was going to learn what I needed to learn, ask questions, become partners with my doctor instead of having some kind of parent/child relationship.” Drescher’s foundation offers free cancer screenings in LA and New York City for women who can’t afford testing with a partnership with Inner Images, Inc. “I got famous, then I got cancer, and now I live to talk about it. Sometimes the best gifts come in the ugliest packages. Please lock elbows with me and join the Cancer Schmancer Movement so together we can do what needs to be done, so less of us will die prematurely.”
