Buy Cheap But Healthy Foods
A limited food budget is no reason to reach for junk food. Among the healthiest foods that are quite affordable are beans, a low-calorie source of fiber and protein; peanuts, rich in protein and heart-healthy fats; homemade cereals that mix oats, grains, raisins and nuts bought in bulk; homemade drinks, such as brewed iced tea or fruit juice in seltzer, which are much less expensive and better for you than most bottled beverages; and frozen vegetables, which aren’t as wonderful as fresh but relatively cheap and still packed with vitamins and antioxidants. In general, cooking at home is a money and calorie saver.
